We cordially invite your participation in the Six-Academy Synthetic Biology Symposium “The Enabling Technology of Synthetic Biology” to be held in Shanghai, China during the period of October 12 (Wednesday)-14 (Friday), 2011. The event will be jointly hosted by Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, in partnership with the UK's academies of science and engineering, and the USA National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Engineering. The local organizer is Shanghai institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIBS, CAS).

Shanghai will host the Symposium following the successful one held by the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering of UK in 13-14 April 2011.Sessions will include the following themes: Parts and module characterization and design; Synthesis technology and fabrication; Synthetic genome, cell and population; Network construction and design; Synthetic biology from an industrial perspective; Synthetic biology from the ethics perspective.

The expertise and networks of these six academies will be brought together, providing a unique opportunity for international researchers, policy makers and companies interested in this emerging field.
