Graduate Education

SIBS has become the educational base for high-quality life science and biotechnology talents in China. It ranked No. 1 in the biological discipline in a national post-graduate study quality survey in 2003, and was entitled to “National Excellent Post-doctoral Follow Station (Biology)” in 2005. From 2000 to 2007, 14 persons won and 4 were nominated for the prize of “National Hundred Outstanding Doctoral Dissertations”, 15 won the Special Scholarship and 44 the Scholarship of CAS President, and 399 won other various prizes. The high-quality post-graduate education project, which includes inviting experts from world-renowned research organizations such as NIH to give lectures, brought the comments that “Shanghai has world-class post-graduate education” by the “Nature” magazine. There are now 1433 post-graduate students in training, including 941 candidates for doctorate, 492 for master’s degree and 61 post-doctoral fellows. In addition, SIBS trains candidates for double-doctorate in biology and clinical medicine as well as R&D post-graduates.
